How does it work?

The process is simple - A Suction or Vacuum Excavator (see diagram below) generates a high-volume flow of air by means of its twin, triple or even quad air fans. Suction Excavators use this flow of air to draw material up through the intake nozzle depositing it in the vehicles container.

The suction power created by the on-board fan system allows these machines to safely excavate material around buried services without coming into contact or damaging the service.

We offer additional solutions such as extension pipes, remote mini tracked units, dedicated iVac units and a range of other specialist machines for the more demanding projects. For more information please visit our Remote Units page or contact us on 0808 503 6279

1. Fan system creates the airflow

The on-board fan system creates an airflow from the intake nozzle, through the container, the micro mesh filter system, and finally through the fan system and sound absorbing unit before being expelled into the air outside the machine.

2. Material is drawn up through the intake nozzle

The airflow created by the fan system draws material up through the 250mm diameter non-metallic nozzle. This eliminates the need to come into contact with buried service maximising the safety of the operative and protection the services.

3. Operative controls the intake nozzle with remote control

The operative directs the intake nozzle via a remote control. This gives full control of the point of excavation from a safe position.

4. Material is deposited in container

Material is deposited in the container located at the rear of the Suction Excavator. This container stores the material and can hold between 7 and 10m3 (depending upon machine). Smaller soil particles are collected within two smaller separation chambers.

5. Air is filtered

Finer particles and dust are captured in the bank of micro mesh filters separating all material from the air.

6. Air exits the Suction Excavator

This air finally passes through the fan system and out via the sound absorbing unit located on top of the Suction Excavator

7. Material is side tipped from container

Once the vehicles container is full, material is side tipped. Material is able to be tipped as a spoil heap or directly into a skip.

Other tipping options are our high tip machine, material is tipped directly into muck away/grab lorry. Or our bagging system, material can be tipped directly into a bag hopper. Once full, the hopper is lifted using a telehandler and material is released into tonne bags for storage.

The Benefits of suction Excavation

Eliminates utility/service strikes
Maximises safety of Operatives
Minimalizes manual handling
Reduced size of excavation – minimises waste
Faster and more efficient than conventional hand dig or mini excavators
Reduces numbers if site vehicles and operatives
Cost effective
